Horse riding is a wonderful way to see the New Forest, and to experience its landscapes, flora, fauna and changing seasons. Horse riders have always enjoyed open access on the Crown Lands of the Forest, which is well furnished with suitable tracks. Please keep on the gravel tracks to help minimise erosion to soils. Horse riding is also permitted on public roads, byways open to all traffic, public bridleways, and dedicated horse riding routes. Bridleways and byways are marked on OS maps. A horse riding guide is available from the Forestry Commission.
The New Forest is a wonderful place for families to enjoy time together. The open countryside, villages and coast provide the ideal opportunity to explore the great outdoors: go on a country hike, play Pooh-sticks over a steam, try out a couple of cycle tracks, or buy an ice cream. Plus there are many visitor attractions to explore.
